Volkswagen Golf

This repository contains signal set configurations for the Volkswagen Golf, organized by model year and version. The files are structured to allow for easy differentiation between model generations and other vehicle parameters, ensuring accurate signal mapping for each version of the Volkswagen Golf.

Generations

The Volkswagen Golf has gone through eight main generations:

  • First Generation (Mk1, 1974-1983): The original Golf replaced the Beetle as Volkswagen's core model. It featured front-wheel drive and a transverse engine layout, revolutionizing the compact car segment. The Golf GTI variant introduced in 1976 created the "hot hatch" category.

  • Second Generation (Mk2, 1983-1992): Larger and more refined than its predecessor, with improved aerodynamics and more powerful engines. This generation introduced features like anti-lock brakes, power steering, and all-wheel drive in the Golf Syncro.

  • Third Generation (Mk3, 1991-1999): Featured more rounded styling, improved safety with the addition of front airbags, and introduced the first TDI diesel engine to the Golf lineup. The VR6 engine was also introduced in this generation.

  • Fourth Generation (Mk4, 1997-2004): Known for its high-quality interior and refined ride quality. This generation introduced ESP (Electronic Stability Program) and offered a wide range of engines from efficient diesels to the powerful R32 with its 3.2L VR6 engine.

  • Fifth Generation (Mk5, 2003-2009): Brought improved driving dynamics with a new multi-link rear suspension. The GTI returned to form with the 2.0L TFSI engine, and this generation also saw the introduction of DSG dual-clutch transmissions.

  • Sixth Generation (Mk6, 2008-2013): An evolution of the Mk5 with refined styling, improved interior quality, and enhanced safety features. New technologies included adaptive chassis control and park assist systems.

  • Seventh Generation (Mk7, 2012-2020): Built on Volkswagen's MQB platform, offering reduced weight, increased efficiency, and improved cabin space. This generation introduced features like the digital instrument cluster and advanced driver assistance systems.

  • Eighth Generation (Mk8, 2019-present): Features a digitalized interior with touch controls and enhanced connectivity. Offers a range of powertrain options including mild hybrid technology, and maintains the Golf's reputation for refinement and practicality.
