[BUG] Contact names not displayed #141
Comments
The issue is unfortunately not with WhatsApp-Chat-Exporter, but rather the problem is that wa.db.crypt15 actually does not contain your address book, i.e. it is a problem with the WhatsApp android program itself. I give further detail on this problem here in issue 63 if you would like to read further. As for the VCF files you find in There is a workaround that you can try in the latest version of WhatsApp-Chat-Exporter with the "Enriching Contact from vCard" option. |
Thank you very much for your help!
Quick question about the "Enriching Contact from vCard" option you linked
to: after extracting the vCard file from my phone, where should I place it
before running the command? In the same folder as the database files and
WhatsApp media folder?

As for the VCF files you find in working_wts>WhatsApp>vCards, these are
not your contacts from your address book per se, but rather the vCards of
contacts that had been exchanged *inside a chat* (i.e. when you create a
message, and click the attachment button and select "Contact", or if
someone else has shared a contact card with you).

It is recommended to place the vCard file in your working directory. However, since you'll need to specify the file path, anywhere will do! |
This is an amazing piece of software and a dream come true! Huge thanks to the developer! Filling the gap for an app with 3 billion users! An amazing way to securely store and backup important life information.
The only problem I have, and this might be user error, is that the contact names are not displayed anywhere, not on the HTML filenames and not inside the chats, as you can see from the screenshots. Inside the working_wts>result>WhatsApp folder I do have a vCards folder with all the VCF files extracted from the wa.db.crypt15 file which was placed in the working_wts folder. There is another vCards folder at working_wts>WhatsApp>vCards.
Most of the numbers in my contacts are from Brazil, which I understand is an issue, but this has happened with all chats, regardless of country and number of digits.
