Does malfunction expose ocaml exceptions (and if not, what's required to make that happen)? Both for ocaml interop and as a target for languages supporting exceptions, that would be a very welcome feature.

It doesn't, but it should! There's nothing especially difficult about adding exception support, but I haven't had time recently.
