The pioneers of computing in the 1970's dreamed of a future where their software creations would be extensible and editable by the end user. Unfortunately, a great divide emerged between two kinds of end users: those that code, and those that do not. The latter were forced to request features and wait for updates.
No-code is the community's refusal to wait around; and to instead find any and every way possible to make use of the tools they've paid for -- some intended, some unintended.
Paradoxically, many of the platforms that no-coders have come to embrace as a way to enhance their stacks are themselves not extensible or editable without knowing how to write, host, and publish code.
Our mission is not to create yet-another workflows product, but instead a very productive, efficient, and approachable development environment that gives no-coders and coders alike an extremely flexible, versatile, and extensible medium for building and connecting almost anything.
To support this mission, we have created a text-based language called SEL, a canvas-based development environment, and a platform to host these creations that lives at usesummit.com.
Our public repository of models is our effort to create an open-source library for no-coders. Amazingly, this layer does not yet exist, which means each of us must re-invent far too many wheels every time we want to improve something or start something new. Forums, channels, and communities are filled with exhaustive "click here then click there" steps and videos, rather than a simple link to a library to add to your project. This is serious friction and a barrier to progress.
We hope you'll join our efforts by exploring Summit, trying one of our open source models, contributing to the repo, or perhaps sponsoring those that do.
