First letter won't register

Not a huge problem but annoying anyway.
When using hypridle as idle manager (config below)

the first letter in any screen locker I've tried does not register. when I type the first letter and then backspace and retype it it works fine. I have no Idea what's causing this issue and I can't find anything about it
